If you don't know how to lay wood floor tiles, the broken and cracked wood tiles will the nightmares. That's why the correct surface treatment is so important. Specifically, this means that tiles need a stable and therefore unusable base material because rigid ceramics cannot compensate for movement. But sometimes, tile professionals have no choice but to participate in a given environment when laying - for example, laying tiles on existing wood floors or particleboards.
Are you willing to add wooden tiles to your balcony? However, wood is not ideal as a base material for outside, because it "works" due to natural fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Wood usually responds to impacts when treading, which in turn affects tiles. Only the correct technology can effectively avoid costly ceramic tile damage.
Wood as the base material: This is an important condition for tile laying
Everywhere, preparation is essential to avoid mistakes in handling tiles. For example, tension-free laying can be effectively supported by eliminating the heterogeneity in advance. The floor can be polished or treated with self leveling agent.
So-called decoupling pads can also be better fixed on carefully polished wood surfaces. This means that all the keywords are named "decoupled" when tiles are placed on wood. In other words, tiles and the underground cannot be permanently connected to each other. Only in this way can the movement of wood be balanced or absorbed, thus eliminating negative tension.
The corresponding decoupling pads have different forms, ranging from 2 to 12 mm in thickness. When placing suitable decoupling pads, there are two different methods according to requirements: they can be placed loosely or glued to wooden substrates. Combined with flexible adhesive and corresponding flexible joint sealer, the movement stress and vibration can be further reduced and the risk of tile rupture can be minimized.
Other measures to avoid wood tile from cracking
Retracted, resilient footstep sound insulation can create miracles. Ensure insulation is at least 22 mm thick and use elastic adhesive to compensate for underground movement. Mineral binders with appropriate plastic coating are particularly recommended to ensure the necessary flexibility. For example, asbestos screed floors can be used as impact sound insulation.
How to lay wood floor tiles
If you need to pay attention not only to the brand quality of tiles, but also to the following additional aspects, the installation results can be optimized:
The plate must be rigid.
They must (as far as possible) be free from damage, and
Rest or tighten firmly and secure.
Expansion joints shall also be used to offset tension.
In terms of thickness and joint width, it has been proved that the minimum thickness of the board is 2 cm and the thickness between each board is not more than 70 cm. All conditions for safe and stable installation are filled with tiles and the old paint and boards are carefully ground off with acrylic's sealing mortar. Only in this way can the thoroughly cleaned wood be further treated.
